  • In-Home Color Samples: We stain 3–5 test patches on your actual floor so you see how the color reacts with YOUR wood.
  • Custom Color Matching: Match an existing room, a Pinterest photo, or a piece of furniture you love.
  • Popular South Shore Colors: Dark walnut, ebony, classic gray, weathered oak, natural, and whitewashed all in our regular rotation.
  • Water-Pop Pre-Treatment: Floors are water-popped before staining so color penetrates evenly with no blotchiness.
  • Oil & Hard-Wax Options: Rubio Monocoat single-coat oil for a matte natural look, or traditional oil-stain + poly for depth.
  • Two-Tone & Patterns: Stained borders, contrasting inlays, and dark stair treads with painted risers — all possible.

Our Staining process

  1. Consultation: Peter brings 6+ pre-mixed sample boards so you can pick a starting direction.
  2. Sand & Water-Pop: Floor sanded to 100 grit, then water-popped so stain absorbs evenly.
  3. In-Home Test Samples: 3–5 test patches on your actual floor — viewed in morning, midday, and evening light.
  4. Stain Application: Hand-applied with rags or sprayed depending on color. Dwell time matched to species.
  5. Finish Coats: Sealer + 2 topcoats of poly or hard-wax oil — chosen to enhance the stain you picked.

Frequently asked questions

What's the most popular floor stain color on the South Shore right now?

Weathered/light gray and natural white oak finishes lead. Classic dark walnut is still huge in Weymouth and Quincy colonials. Ebony is a bold accent choice in modern Hingham builds.

Will the stain look like the sample online?

No — and that's why we do in-home samples on YOUR floor in YOUR light. Every species absorbs differently. Red oak, white oak, and maple all read the same stain very differently.

How long does staining add to a refinishing project?

1–2 days — one day for sample approval and stain application, one day for dry time before the first finish coat.

Can you do gray-stained floors?

Yes — and they're hugely popular on the South Shore right now. Gray reads best on white oak. Red oak can pull pink under gray stain, so we do test samples first.
