  • Rubio Monocoat: Single-coat plant-based hard-wax oil. Natural matte look, spot-repairable, zero VOC.
  • Oil-Modified Poly: Classic warm amber tone. Deepest grain pop. 7–10 day cure but unmatched depth.
  • Sheen Options: Matte, satin, semi-gloss, gloss — chosen to fit your light and aesthetic.
  • Anti-Slip & Pet-Safe: Special formulations for stairs, mudrooms, and homes with elderly residents.
  • Re-Coat Service: Bona Refresh or screen-and-recoat extends finish life every 5–7 years without full refinishing.

Our Finishes process

  1. Finish Consultation: We walk through traffic patterns, kids, pets, and aesthetic — and recommend the right finish system.
  2. Sand & Stain: Floor sanded to 100 grit and stained (if applicable) before finish application.
  3. Sealer Coat: Penetrating sealer or first coat applied — sets the foundation for the topcoats.
  4. Two Topcoats: Buffed between coats, applied with T-bar or roller depending on finish system.
  5. Cure Schedule: Walk-on in 24 hours, furniture in 7 days, rugs in 21 days — we leave written instructions.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Rubio Monocoat and polyurethane?

Rubio is a single-coat plant-based oil that penetrates the wood — gives a natural matte look and is spot-repairable. Poly sits on top of the wood, gives more sheen, and is more scratch-resistant but harder to repair.

How long before I can walk on the new finish?

Water-based: 24 hours sock-foot, 7 days shoes. Oil-based poly: 24–48 hours, full cure 2 weeks. Rubio Monocoat: 24 hours light traffic, full cure 7 days.

Will the finish yellow over time?

Oil-based poly ambers slightly with age — many South Shore homeowners actually like this on red oak. Water-based finishes stay color-true. Rubio Monocoat does not yellow.

Can I get a true matte finish?

Yes — Bona Traffic HD Naturale and Rubio Monocoat both deliver an authentic matte look. Very popular in modern Hingham and Milton homes right now.
