Traditional drum sanding throws pounds of fine wood dust into the air — and that dust ends up in your air ducts, behind your fridge, on your art, and in your lungs. For families with kids, asthma, or open kitchens, this is a non-starter.

Our dustless system uses HEPA-filtered vacuum-attached drum and edge sanders, plus containment walls and standalone HEPA scrubbers. The result: you can be in the next room while we sand, and you won't be cleaning fine dust off your shelves for the next three weeks.

Our Dustless process

  1. Containment Setup: Plastic walls, door covers, vent seals, and HEPA scrubbers installed before any sanding begins.
  2. Vacuum-Attached Sanding: Drum, edger, and orbital all attached to HEPA-filtered vacuums via direct ports.
  3. Continuous Air Scrubbing: Standalone HEPA scrubbers run throughout the sanding process.
  4. Tack & Clean: After sanding, every surface tack-clothed and HEPA-vacuumed before staining.
  5. Walk-Through: We walk through the work zone with you before finishing so you see how clean it is.

Frequently asked questions

Is dustless sanding really 100% dust-free?

We capture 99%+ at the source. There will be a small amount of fine settle-dust visible at containment edges, but nothing like traditional sanding — which can leave pounds of dust throughout the house.

Can I stay in my home during dustless refinishing?

Yes — most Weymouth, Quincy, Braintree, and Hingham clients do. We block off the work zone and you live in the rest of the house. Finish fumes during topcoat are the only reason you might want to leave for a night.

Do you charge extra for dustless?

No. Dustless is the standard process on every Peter's Hardwood Floor refinishing job. It's not a $500 add-on.

What about pets and kids during the project?

Pets and kids can stay in the home — just keep them out of the work zone. We seal the containment with zipper doors so curious dogs can't get in.
